Football World Cup: Messi Sidelined from Argentina Team
Argentine star Lionel Messi will not feature in his team for the next two World Cup qualifier matches.
According to an Associated Press report, he was omitted from the 25-man squad due to a muscle injury.
The football club stated that the 37-year-old Messi underwent an MRI scan to evaluate the severity of the discomfort he experienced during the match against Atlanta United. It was later confirmed that Messi suffered only a minor injury.
Lionel Messi clinched the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has battled several injuries this season. In March, he missed three matches before returning on Thursday, but another injury on Sunday forced him out again.
Argentina, currently leading the 10-team South American qualifying group, is set to face Uruguay on Friday and Brazil four days later.
This challenge may become even tougher as, in addition to Messi, Giovani Lo Celso, Paulo Dybala, and Gonzalo Montiel will also be absent from the team.
